Abstract:

Technology can be used to grow and shape a community or it can be used to subjugate and control.
Management of the Staunton Makerspace management sought a class management system and improvements to its communication systems. The research team developed a set of web applications to serve these needs. The applications let management and members better interact with each other, and they formalize the process for creating classes for both members and the public. They improve the client’s public outreach and appeal, help it create classes to attract new members, and enhance internal communications.
How does the Chinese state manage national surveillance? The government of the People’s Republic of China works with domestic corporations to develop and maintain surveillance networks, which are being used to commit cultural genocide against Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang Province. The state is expanding its surveillance infrastructure into other nations under the Belt and Road Initiative. Dissidents use identity obfuscation to evade surveillance. Human rights organizations seek to bring worldwide pressure on China to change these policies.
