Abstract:
This paper seeks to determine the functionality of the bread riot scenes in Milan in the scheme of Manzoni's form of ideology and to prove that the Milanese bread riots failed due to the lack of a class consciousness among the masses and that in fact they have a place in Manzoni 's Christian ideology serving as an allegory for Manzoni's 18th century. The writings and ideas of Marxist literary critic of George Lukacs will serve as the basis for this critique.
