Abstract:

Theater Safety for the Non-Professional is a practical guide for those working in theater without substantial or specific training in safe theatrical practices. It is geared toward educators, students, and those working in amateur or community theaters, primarily in the United States. It includes widely accepted and recommended best practices as well as government and industry standards and regulations related to safety in theatrical production and performance. The guide is broken down into sections pertaining to various topics in the realm of theater safety, from scenic construction and personal protective equipment to audience and facility safety. In addition to guidelines and recommendations for safe practice, the guide includes links to online resources, lists of print resources, and a glossary of theater terms used throughout. The interactive links embedded in the .pdf are meant to make the guide more accessible and easy to navigate in digital form, but it is also formatted for use in print form.
