Abstract:

My technical capstone project and my STS research project are not related. The technical capstone project explored the architecture of a service I developed during my internship in the summer of 2023. My task was to develop the Notification Service, a convenient application programming interface that allows for efficient configuration of event-based notifications. My STS project explores the training data supply shortage and resulting ethical concerns. High quality training data for large artificial intelligence models are quickly running out. The largest players in artificial intelligence are increasingly looking for new deposits of training data, however, not all of the data was acquired in a fair manner. My STS research attempts to find ways to remedy the shortage of training data in a way that respects all parties involved.
