Abstract
Lonely in the “city of love,” college graduate Madeline wanders, seeks, and sometimes finds the life experience that she lacks. In this off-kilter world, a foray at the Louvre makes Madeline intimately familiar with one particular statue: The Winged Victory of Samothrace. The encounter sends her even further afield to Norway, where she tries in earnest to “do drugs, have sex, and fall in love.” In moments of both witty repartee and unexpected action, this thesis is a novel excerpt that playfully depicts a modern quest for selfhood.
