Abstract
This work explores melancholia in the Italian context through an analysis of the paintings in Giuseppe di Lampedusa's historical novel <i>II Gattopardo</i>. Analyzing melancholia through paintings in <i>ll Gattopardo</i> will teach us that life is a manageable struggle when we look for happiness and freedom.
