Abstract:
Social media is becoming more popular and is a key source of information (including news) to billions of users worldwide. With how influential it has become, the algorithms that are at the center of social media platforms naturally have the potential to influence these users. When analyzing these algorithms, they have the potential to continuously recommend content of similar arguments and viewpoints. This leads to the formation of echo chambers on these platforms. The research paper in this project explores the landscape surrounding these algorithms and the many key actors and their relationships. The technical report is a proposal on how natural language processing could be used to improve these algorihtms.
