Abstract
This dissertation examines democratic satisfaction among Americans. It employs a multi-method approach to investigate how satisfied citizens are with democracy in the US, which items respondents sample when evaluating their governing system, and whether community engagement impacts democratic satisfaction. I find asymmetric levels of satisfaction among partisans; interactive and multi-object considerations of democracy, with both explicit and implicit notions of support; and increased focus on local government and citizen-led facets of democracy among those with notable community involvement.
