Abstract
Clovis, in Dream of a Common Language, describes what it is like to have something beautiful in her life again, to have a relationship with herself again, to have a relationship with a painting again, and to have a relationship with her husband again. This presence is referred to as, “the radiant third body that we have created.” (Act II) It is the literal body of her son. It is the touch of her paintbrush to canvas. It is the understanding between her and her husband. The radiant third body is the cloud drawn on the paper. It is the tears between audience and actor. It is the first breath of life and the last breath before death. It is the ghost light. It is the ghosts. It is the relationship. It is the character created by the actress. It is “the radiant third body that we have created.”
