Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study the career of Sam Higginbottom. For forty-two years from 1903 to 1945, Sam Higginbottom waged a dedicated, courageous and successful battle against famine and poverty in India. Born in England and educated in the United States, Higginbottom served as a Presbyterian missionary to Allahabad in the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.
