Abstract:
The author proposes to examine the impact of the depression and New Deal on Virginia between the years 1929 and 1938. The treatment of this phenomenon is largely along economic, rather than social lines. The major emphasis of this study is on the New Deal, the execution of its program and its achievements in Virginia. The author hopes to answer the question, “To what extent did the depression and/or the New Deal change the face of Virginia, her people, her economy, her politics?”
