Notes:

THE "BIBLE" POEMS derive their titles from notoriously misprinted editions of the Bible in English, a listing of which may be found in Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (Fifteenth edition, HarperCollins, 1995, London).

THE "VARIATIONS" POEMS are exact anagrammatic recombinations--letter for letter—of the borrowed line within each poem. The seminal lines are respectively taken from Ecclesiastes 1:9, poem #324 by Emily Dickinson, "The Gift Outright" by Robert Frost, the essay "Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson and "Code Book Lost" by Robert Penn Warren.

IN "AIDS TEST, " THE THREE LETTERS of Jehovah's name (IRV from the tetragrammaton IHVH) are rearranged according to the dimensions of space, as is described in the first chapter of the Sefer Yetsirah.
