Abstract:

A collection of short stories that explore the sublimation of place and body, the uncanny, and femininity. In "Desecration", a group of young girls desecrate a man's property and are driven into backlands as punishment. In "Pincher's Hole", a pregnant woman reckons with the supposed suicide and disappearance of her husband into an abyssal cave diving system. "Conservation of Energy" is a roving narrative tracking the webbed stories of a family resisting the construction of a pipeline through their land in the midst of grieving the loss of a child.
