Abstract:
This thesis is an attempt to present a, coherent picture of the anti-imperialists, who they were and in what they believed. It essentially explores anti-imperialist thought in America 1898-1900, as it was presented in the Congressional debates and through speeches, books and numerous articles. This thesis also raises the question of whether or not the fate of the anti-imperialists can properly be determined by what
happened in 1898-1900, or is it important to see beyond this immediate failure to an ultimate victory?
