Abstract
This thesis interrogates the relationship between science fiction as a genre and the enduring tropes of Orientalism and the model minority that surround Asian/American media representation. It focuses on two works: the 2013 film Pacific Rim and the 2014 novel On Such A Full Sea by Chang Rae Lee.
